We are raising funds to create a purpose built recovery area for patients undergoing interventional radiology procedures, significantly enhancing our patient’s treatment environment and experience.

Interventional radiology offers minimally invasive alternatives to open surgery, for example using MRI scans to precisely target a specific area with pinhole surgery.

With recent advances in technology the range of procedures that can now be performed is ever expanding, with many interventions being life-saving.

However, we do not currently have a specific interventional radiology recovery unit.

We want to create a specific recovery unit, an area with the capacity to accommodate six patients in a purpose built recovery area at any one time. The new recovery area will also provide a new assessment space for our patients.

The new recovery area will be within immediate proximity of the procedure rooms, offering a significant improvement in the patient and family experience. The recovery area will also allow families to remain in one location and liaise with the same staff members throughout, building a strong patient/staff relationship.

This specific recovery unit will ensure that our Interventional Radiology team at the Lister are able to perform even more life-saving treatments in the very best environment.

The impact a specific recovery unit will:

  • Provide a more calming environment for our patients
  • Reduce waiting times for our patients
  • Increase our procedure capacity by an additional 500 patients each year
  • Enhances our patients overall experience within the hospital environment
