From Friday 3 July we will be holding a week-long Virtual Balloon Race, with all funds raised going towards helping people affected by cancer.

For those that take part there are fantastic prizes up for grabs, including £500 cash, an Apple iPad and 10 x £10 book tokens!

The race will be hosted on the Ecoracing website, making it 100 per cent eco-friendly.

How it works:

  • Each balloon costs just £3 and you can purchase as many as you like.
  • You can enhance your chances of winning by customising balloon features such as the thickness of rubber and helium contents.
  • After the 'launch' an advanced computer modelling programme based on real-time weather data will simulate the race and you can track your balloon's progress via Google Maps.
  • The race lasts for seven days and the winning balloon will be the one that has flown the furthest in a straight line.
  • The winner will be emailed with confirmation of the win and will be asked to contact the race organiser for prize details.

All money raised will go towards supporting cancer services across the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, including Mount Vernon Cancer Centre, Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre and Lister Macmillan Cancer Centre.

How your money helps:

Mount Vernon Cancer Centre (MVCC) is a highly specialised cancer centre providing Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy treatment plus information and support at the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre. Everything we fundraise for at the MVCC goes towards giving our patients and their loved ones, a better experience whilst in our care.

With our donors support we are able to help in the following ways:

  • Purchase specialist medical equipment and resources.
  • Fund services at the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre, a drop-in centre providing information and support to people affected by cancer.
  • Provide funding to our staff to undertake leading edge research.
  • Deliver refurbishments projects to enhance patient and visitor areas and experience.
  • Fund volunteer led initiatives which enhance the care for our patients and their families.

The Lister Macmillan Cancer Centre treats more than 10,000 cancer patients from the local area every year. The centre provides double the chemotherapy capacity of the Lister's previous unit along with a dedicated information and support centre for patients and families and two gardens for patients to relax in.

With our donors support we are able to help in the following ways:

  • Fund specialist equipment.
  • Invest in staff training opportunities.
  • Provide additional patient support services.
  • Maintain the two LMCC relaxation gardens.
