The Lister Neonatal Unit Families Group was set up (under the name "Lister Hospital SCBU Support Group") in 2009 by two mums whose little boys both spent time in special care after their birth.

They wanted to do something to help support families going through experiences similar to their own, and also give something back to the neonatal unit through fundraising.

The goal of the group is to help create a community of people who care about the neonatal unit and the families who use it, and try to make the frightening experience of needing our local neonatal unit as good as it can be.

Over the years the group has grown and there is now an informal committee of around 8 parents and members of staff who meet every 1 - 2 months. Today the group support the Neonatal team at Lister by giving the parents opinions and they offer an online support to each other through the growing facebook members group. The Families Group also continues to raise money for the unit with the help of East and North Hertfordshire Hospitals'  Charity and offers a platform for others who want to give something back. Their most recent fundraising campaign is called THE BIG BUILD, which aims to provide the unit with a new parents room, with better seating and a larger kitchen and better facitilies so that parents with newborns who can spend months in hospital can have a home from home to go to during a very difficult time.

The group are always looking for new people to join them, so please get in touch if you think you might be interested.
