Get ready for Hertfordshire’s most colourful fun run and raise funds for your local hospitals!

Run, walk or skip a 10k, 5k or 2.5k route with a colourful twist around Ridlins End Stadium and Playing Fields to raise funds for the Lister Hospital, New QEII Hospital, Hertford County Hospital and Mount Vernon Cancer Centre.

Whatever your reason for taking part, every penny raised will help us fund projects to help our wonderful NHS teams go above and beyond for our patients.

What to expect on the day

Runners are invited to wear their favourite colourful costumes and throughout the run there will be colour-themed surprises.

The Rainbow Run isn’t a serious race and is suitable for all ages and abilities. We do appreciate that some people may be taking part as a challenge and would like to beat a personal time so we will have a race clock at the finish line.

There are 5k or 10k routes and a 2.5k junior circuit. Children under 5 run for free. There are routes suitable for wheelchairs and buggies.

All entrants will receive a rainbow medal and there will be prizes for the best rainbow-inspired outfits and for most funds raised.

Music and PA will be provided by North Herts FM and Stevenage Leisure Limited will do a fun warm-up. Rainbow merchandise and food stalls will be on site.

Fun trophies will be awarded to the first male, female and child over the finishing line.

All children must be accompanied by an adult with one adult accompanying a maximum of 2 children.

Run to say thank you to a hospital ward or team, run in memory of a loved one or run just for fun.

Kerrie (pictured below with her daughter) is running to thank the intensive care team at Lister:

“I'm taking part in the Rainbow Run with my family to say thank you to the intensive care team for taking such good care of me when I was admitted to the ICU after I contracted Covid-19 in 2021. No matter what was happening, how exhausted the doctors and nurses were, they would always have time to sit with me and hold my hand. I will forever be grateful and will be running to raise funds for the Sunshine Appeal to build new outdoor spaces for patients, family members and staff members to enjoy."

Get sponsored and help us go the extra mile

We hope you will consider raising funds on top of your entry fee and you can help us go even further for patients, families and staff across all our hospitals.

It is free entry for runners who pledge to raise a minimum of £100 per person and you will also get a free rainbow running vest to wear with pride on the day as an extra thank you from us!

If you will raise a minimum of £100, register as a fundraiser on the registration page and we will send you a fundraising pack and everything you need to get started.

Here is how your funds could help:

  • £20 could fund a free specialist bra for a patient who has had breast reconstructive surgery
  • £50 could pay for sensory toys for our staff to give to children with additional or complex need
  • £100 could fund scalp cooling packs for patients having chemotherapy
  • £250 could pay for a specialist training course for our NHS staff to develop their skills further
  • £500 could fund a uniform, expenses and training for Butterfly Volunteers who provide companionship to end-of-life patients
