James Hemmings, Uro-oncology nurse at the Lister, became a Charity Ambassador for the Hospital’s Charity in January 2019, after raising £4300 for the Urology Unit with other members of the support and fundraising group RALPH’s.

RALPH’s was set up by James and his friend Jason Keener to provide support for men who received/were receiving treatment at the Lister for prostate cancer.  After just over a year of the RALPH support group running, the group decided they wanted to give back to the Urology Unit at the Lister.

James and other members of RALPH decided to participate in a Sky Dive, to raise funds for the Hospital.  James said:

‘The support of the Charity Team was incredible; they provided support every step of the way, they created posters and provided collection buckets to place around the Trust. Our Sky Dive was mentioned in the press as well as on local radio.’

James described how privileged he feels to be a nurse, helping thousands of people throughout his career. He explains:

The Hospital Charity is an incredible way to encourage patients and visitors to give back. The Charity helps to provide equipment that goes above and beyond what the NHS can offer, helping to create a more comfortable journey for our patients.’

James is taking part in our Charity Abseil at the Lister this April. If you want to fundraise for the charity, or to find out more information about the Hospital Charity,  please contact Claire Roberts at on  01438 285182  or via email [email protected]
