Wow what an incredible display at  the Lister!

We were delighted to be joined by over 30 fantastic firewalkers on Saturday who all courageously braved the elements and scorching hot flames to raise funds for our Hospital Charity.

Our supporters upped the challenge even further by walking on a lane of lego bricks straight before the main firewalk.

Scott from UK Firewalk hosted the evening and coordinated the firewalk training and spectators at Lister enjoyed music, entertainment and catering by Pukka Tukka on the plaza whilst they waited for the Fire lane to be lit.

Kelly Elliott, play specialist for the Bluebell and Bramble Childrens wards took part on the night with her two children Reggie and Samuel ‘My kids decided to take on the Firewalk challenge as my team are currently raising funds so we can build a brand new SafeSpace in children’s emergency department. The SafeSpace will be a comforting area where we can treat children with complex needs and mental health disorders. We have £18,000 left to raise and this is just one of the events I wanted to get involved in to bring us one step closer to the target. Samuel and Reggie also loved taking part to support other local children’

Glyn Doggett, Kelly Bibb and Andrew Hall signed up the challenge to raise funds for our neonatal big build appeal, Glyn said ‘I became chairman of the neonatal families group after my son Max was born at 28 weeks and spent 8 weeks on the unit. We continue to be so grateful for the care Max received which is why we decided to take on this crazy challenge to help us towards our big build appeal target which is currently at around £90,000 before we can start the build of the new families room’

A host of local companies got involved in the event to support our hospital charity including teams from G4S, Coop stores in Biggleswade, Santander in Hatfield and St. Albans, Barclays Bank in St Albans and Settle Housing in Letchworth.

Beth McNeil, Supporter Relationship Manager said ‘We had so much fun organising the Fire and Legowalk at Lister, it really was a spectacle to behold on the plaza and our visitors loved cheering on our brave participants.

We would firstly like to thank all our fantastic firewalkers for signing up and raising sponsorship for our hospital charity, every penny raised from the event will be going towards the very best medical kit and equipment for our wards as well as two new areas in the neonatal unit and childrens emergency department to enhance patient care and visitor experience. We are hoping to raise over £3500 when we have received all sponsorship so we are encouraging our participants to keep getting those all-important donations in for completing the challenge.

We would also like to thank UK Firewalk for putting on a brilliant event, Connect scaffolding for hiring out fencing, Pukka Tukka and our Trust catering team as well as all the staff and volunteers from the NHS Trust who helped make the day possible with a special shout to Mark Lisher and Angela Fenn.’
