Our award-winning Butterfly Volunteer Service relies on specially-trained volunteers to provide companionship for end-of-life patients.

Without the Butterfly volunteers, up to 20 patients were dying alone at the Lister each month and others were alone when waiting for relatives to arrive.

Our wonderful Butterfly volunteers sit with around 650 patients each year. 

In order to keep the Butterfly Volunteer Service running we must raise £45,000 each year to provide management and support for our 54 volunteers, training, uniforms and information packs for patients and their families.

Each year we:

• Make over 2,000 visits
• Provide over 1,000 hours of emotional support
• Increase our volunteer numbers to make more visits and provide more support

In June 2020 we were delighted to receive the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service in recognition of the outstanding compassion and dedication of our volunteers.
