Northwood Golf Club selected Mount Vernon Cancer Centre as its charity of the year 2023 and after a year of fundraising, have now raised £33,605 for the centre.

Women’s captain, Radhi Nanalal, and men’s captain, Neil Whitehead, recently presented their cheque to the Ginnie Abubakar, cancer support and information services manager at the centre.

Radhi said: “It was our pleasure to have Mount Vernon Cancer Centre as our charity of the year for 2023. The charity is a cause close to many of our hearts. Not only is the centre local to the club but a few of our members have received fantastic treatment and care there so we know first-hand how much of a difference the funds will make in our local community.

“From golf tournaments and raffles to dance lessons and running the London Marathon, our members have really got behind the fundraising this year and we are delighted that we have been able to raise a record-breaking amount for this worthwhile cause as part of our centenary celebrations.”

Beth McNeil, head of fundraising for East and North Hertfordshire Hospitals’ Charity which supports Mount Vernon Cancer Centre said: “I can’t thank Northwood Golf Club enough for their amazing support. The incredible amount that they have raised, from such a variety of events, will help so many local people facing treatment for cancer. We were honoured to be their charity of the year.

“The funds raised will help provide free complementary therapy sessions for patients and their families at the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre, based at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre.

“The complementary therapies include massage, counselling and acupuncture and are delivered alongside their medical treatment to help patients cope with their diagnosis and treatment. We are extremely grateful to Northwood Golf Club for helping to provide these vital services for patients going through a very difficult time.
