We were delighted to welcome Paul and Kevan from Ashwell Masonic Lodge to our breast unit at New QEII Hospital where they presented director, Harleen Deol, the consultants and nursing team with a cheque for £2,300.

Paul, as lodge master last year, chose to support the breast unit to thank them for the care his wife, Diane, received.

Paul said: “I honestly can’t thank the staff enough. They turned what was an incredibly traumatic time into something we could cope with. From the way they communicated every step of the process to the care and compassion they showed – we are truly grateful. Supporting the breast unit was our way of saying thank you.”

The lodge raised the funds by hosting events throughout the year such as Burns Night, a Valentine's dinner and Ladies' Day.

This donation brings the total to £10,000 that we have been fortunate to receive from the lodge over the last four years. The lodge has previously supported the urology and cardiology departments.

Beth McNeil, head of fundraising, said: “We cannot thank Paul and the members of Ashwell Lodge enough for the time and effort they have put in over four years to give back to our hospitals.

"It’s been wonderful for me to attend their fundraising events and to speak to members who have told me what great treatment they have received at our hospitals. This is the reason they have been so passionate about giving back and saying thank you.

"They have seen first-hand how their donations are making an impact to local people every day which is why it’s been a cause close to their heart.

"We simply couldn’t do the work we do without groups like Ashwell Lodge, so once again we would like to thank them for helping us make a difference to our patients, families and staff.”
