Four bedrooms in the neonatal unit at the Lister Hospital have been refurbished thanks to the support from the local community.

The bedrooms mean that parents can stay with their newborn babies with the medical teams nearby if needed.

Our appeal, launched in partnership with the Lister Neonatal Families Group, raised the £60k needed to give the rooms a much-needed update. They are now cosy, comfortable and a ‘home-from-home' for parents who need somewhere to rest and relax as their new babies receive the care they need.

Glyn Doggett, chair of the Lister Neonatal Families Group said: “We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has helped raise the funds to refurbish these bedrooms.

“As a parent who used them back in 2013 it’s great that they now don’t look like a hospital, which was the whole point of the refurbishment - they are now more like a home-from-home.

“The rooms are there to help you connect with your child and learn how to navigate looking after a premature baby, so you really need that private, comfortable space. They are now much more homely and so much nicer than before.”

Julia Wurie, neonatal outreach sister, said: “We are so grateful to everyone who helped us create these beautifully decorated rooms for parents to use before they take their babies home.

“Having somewhere private and comfortable to relax in while you are going through a worrying time with your newborn baby will make such a difference. Thank you.”
