Co-operative Childcare Watford South raised £1,014.90 in support of the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre, based at the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre and funded by the East and North Hertfordshire Hospitals’ Charity.

The nursery staff and children rode 965 miles between 8th – 12th July, raising funds to help the Centre provide complementary therapies, information and support services to thousands of cancer patients and their families at any stage of their treatment.

13 nursery staff took it in turns to ride in 30 minute shifts from 8:30 – 5:30 on a static exercise bike, whilst the children rode up and down the playground on their small bikes, altogether completing the equivalent of Land’s End to John O’Groats in just five days. Even after this mammoth effort the children and staff have even more fundraising activity planned for the rest of the year!

Rachael Perry, Deputy Manager at Co-operative Childcare Watford South, said:

“We are proud to be supporting the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre as a lot of our staff and families at the nursery have been affected by cancer in some way in their lives. We love the idea that there is somewhere to go near our community that offers people support and activities to help not just them but their families though what would be a very tough time. The Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre is a great place and we will continue to raise as much money as we can to help support the centre run.”
