Our inaugural golf day was a huge hit with £3,500 raised for the Sunshine Appeal.

Sponsored by Marshall Mather Estate Agent, the event took place at Mill Green Golf Club and raised funds for the Sunshine Appeal to transform outside spaces at Lister Hospital in Stevenage for patients, staff and visitors to be able to enjoy the benefits of being in the fresh air and sunshine.

Paul Mather, owner of Marshall Mather Estate Agent said: “When I was in hospital after a heart attack I felt very confined by the grey corridors. I could see the sunshine outside, but I wasn’t allowed to go out even though I could walk. I was desperate to breathe fresh air and feel the sun on my face.

“Golf has been part of my recovery: it’s being outside; it’s exercise; it’s a social event. I want to raise funds so Lister Hospital can have outdoor spaces for the staff and patients. Being outside does us all the world of good.”

Eloise Huddleston, director of East and North Hertfordshire Hospitals' Charity said: “Thank you to everyone who came along to support our inaugural golf day. It was a great atmosphere and everyone had a brilliant time.

“We didn’t have the sunshine unfortunately, but we did raise lots of money for our Sunshine Appeal."

We'd also like to thank these organisations for supporting the event:
