A team of 13 staff from the Emergency Department at Lister Hospital took to the skies to raise funds to support patients in their department.

The team of fearless fundraisers bravely took on a skydive, jumping out of a plane at 7,000 feet.

Kim Reece, emergency department PA, organiser and part of the intrepid squad of skydivers, said: “Every day, our emergency department support patients and their loved ones at some of the most difficult and vulnerable moments in their lives.

“By raising funds, we hope to make a real difference to the experience and wellbeing of both patients and their relatives during challenging times and to help support our hard-working colleagues who care for them around the clock.”

Last year a team from the department, including five of the skydiving team, also took on the Lister Abseil and raised funds for a charge box which allows patients in the emergency department to charge their phones while they wait.

This has proved invaluable. Being able to stay in touch with loved ones while in hospital is very important and being able to charge your phone easily and for free takes that worry away.

Beth McNeil, head of fundraising, added: “These guys are amazing. They do a difficult job, day in, day out and then in their own time, they take on this terrifying challenge to raise funds to help support their patients and families. They even found time to run a bake sale in the run up to their skydive to raise more funds. We can’t thank them enough.

“The team have already raised an amazing £9,000 but you can still support them and thank them for doing a brilliant job at: www.justgiving.com/team/lister-emergency-department-4.”
