This year’s newly rebranded ‘Moor Park 10 & More’ event raised an incredible £68,000 to support patients receiving treatment at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre.

The popular event was enjoyed by 1,228 runners of all ages and abilities, including students from 74 different schools, despite the rainy weather.

The event now includes 5k and 10k walks around the beautiful Merchant Taylors’ School and Moor Park estate.

Participants included staff from the cancer centre, and former patients and their loved ones who wanted to thank the centre for their care.

The funds raised will go towards projects above the remit of the NHS that help make the experience that much better for patients and their families.

Hannah Martin, events manager, said: "We were thrilled to see so many familiar faces, and new ones too, joining us for this iconic event. Thank you to everyone that took part, fundraised, volunteered or sponsored this year's event. We are thrilled to have raised such a phenomenal amount to support patients and their families at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre.

“We’d like to give special thanks to Merchant Taylors’ School, Fruity Fresh, Alison Williams, Dina Hirani and the Sky TV team, Rupal Patel, Arun Koshal, Ginnie Abubakar, Active Training World, Moor Park residents and to Matt Gifford, our brilliant photographer.

“Thank you also to our fantastic sponsors - Market Financial Solutions, Telic Accountants, Mercer & Hole, Trojan Fitness, Pinner Dental Care, Uzuri Aesthetics, Monarch Commercial and Maitre Consulting. Your support means so much.”

Beth McNeil, head of fundraising, added: “Receiving a cancer diagnosis is always going to be difficult and the treatment itself can bring added struggles. We have a fantastic team at the centre that provides the best medical care, and we work with them to help make things a little easier for patients.

“With the funds raised at events like Moor Park 10 & More, we provide scalp cooling caps to reduce the likelihood of hair loss for patients having chemotherapy; we make improvements to the outside spaces so patients, their families and our staff can enjoy the benefits of being outside and we also fund complementary therapies such as massage and relaxation sessions to help patients cope with the physical and emotional impact of their treatment.

“We wouldn’t be able to do any of this without our wonderful local community joining our events, donating and fundraising so thank you to everyone who helps those going through cancer treatment. You really do make a difference.”
