A huge thank you to Thames Materials who hosted their fifth annual golf day on Friday 28th June, in memory of former employee Shelia Melvin. The day raised an amazing £32,500 in support of the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Cancer Centre.

104 golfers teed off on the Buckinghamshire Golf Club in Denham, with special guests including Sir Tony McCoy OBE, John Francombe MBE and Richard Hughes.  In the five years of running the event over £106,000 has been raised, helping the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre provide emotional, practical support and complementary therapies to thousands of cancer patients and their families at any stage of their treatment.

Geoff Melvin (pictured far right) husband of the late Sheila, whom the event is held in memory of, said:

“When you are told you have Cancer even by the most sympathetic Doctor your whole world seems to collapse’s around you. As her family and Husband we were lost on how to help , or what to say; a very kind support nurse suggested we visit the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre in the grounds of the hospital. The Centre and its staff were a safe harbour in a very stormy sea, the help, understanding and just having someone to talk to for both Sheila and the rest of the family was so precious and we can never thank them enough for their kindness.

For the last 5 years since her death with the very generous help of the guys from Thames Materials for whom she worked and family and friends many thousands of pounds has been raised to help the Centre carry on its work helping both patients and families in their moment of most of need.”
