Mount Vernon Cancer Centre held a lovely event during Volunteers' Week to thank all the volunteers who work so hard to support patients and families at the centre.

The centre has over 50 volunteers who support in all areas of the hospital including carrying out much-needed fundraising for the complementary therapy services at the Lynda Jackson Centre and looking after the beautiful outdoor spaces that offer areas for relaxation and respite to patients and staff.

Volunteers gathered with staff for updates on the work of the charity, the outpatients department, how staff at the cancer centre are tackling climate change and learning about the benefits of aromatherapy, ending with a session making their own aromatherapy aid.

Paula Statham, hospital nurse and quality director at the centre, said: “This event is a wonderful chance for us to recognise, celebrate and thank our volunteers for all they do and I know their time and efforts are really appreciated by our patients and staff alike. They can really make a huge difference to our patients, their families and friends.”

We would like to thank Hillier Garden Centres for the beautiful flowers, Dawood and Samina for the delicious samosas and Seven Seeded Artisan Bakery for the scrummy pastries that they donated for the event.
