Tracy’s Story

'I always think just how fortunate we are to have Lister Hospital in my home town. We can be there within minutes if necessary.

Unfortunately over the past eight years each one of my five grandchildren have attended the hospital for one reason or another.

The most terrifying was when my granddaughter Imogen, then aged three was admitted with viral meningitis, and then again aged five with a rare strain of meningitis causing swelling of the brain.

Her care was exemplary and she came home despite us being warned how ill she was and possible outcomes. None of which were good.

We felt such gratitude towards the staff for their care and words alone cannot express how indebted we felt for saving her.

After some thought about ways to thank them, I found out that the Hospital Charity was trying to raise enough money to buy an interactive floor for the children’s A&E Department. I made my mind up immediately that this was my chance to do something for them in return.

I decided to raise sponsorships for a 1300 feet tandem parachute jump. I did the jump in April 2018 from a small airfield north of Peterborough and with the support of friends, family and some businesses I raised £3600.

I shall never take the NHS for granted, even if I have to wait a little for appointments.

They might be saving some else’s life, just like they saved Imogen'.
