More than 80 staff areas at our hospitals have been refurbished thanks to donations to our Here For Each Other appeal

We launched the appeal at the start of the pandemic to support staff as they faced the biggest challenge the NHS has ever seen.

As well as providing staff with morale-boosting treats, wellbeing support and reward and recognition schemes, the funds raised from the appeal have also helped refurbish areas in the hospitals to ensure staff have a nice space in which to take a break.

The areas that have been refurbished include spaces at Hertford County Hospital, Lister Hospital in Stevenage, Mount Vernon Cancer Centre in Northwood, London, and the New QEII Hospital in Welwyn Garden City – as well as the satellite renal units in Bedford, Harlow, Luton and St Albans.

More than £150,000 has been spent by the charity on items such as new furniture for seating and dining areas, storage, white goods and redecorating.

Thomas Pounds – Chief People Officer at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, which runs the hospitals – said: “We are delighted our staff have newly decorated and comfortable rooms where they can take a well-earned break, especially after what they have had to deal with over the last couple of years.

“We would like to thank everyone who supported our charity’s Here For Each Appeal and made these refurbishments possible. It has made such a difference. Our staff now have lovely rooms which they enjoy being in. It’s given them a real boost.”
