The Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre (LJMC), located at the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre, Northwood is one of the first organisations of its kind to provide support, information and holistic care to people affected by cancer.

The LJMC provides a service that support patients and families by helping them cope with all aspects of the disease from diagnosis, through treatment and beyond.

The Centre works closely with our clinical staff to ensure that conventional treatments and procedures are fully integrated with a holistic approach that deals with the patient as a whole person, and not just with the disease.

Named after Lynda Jackson, a patient at Mount Vernon who died at the age of 31. Her family and friends raised a substantial amount of money in her memory to launch the fundraising for the centre that was to come to bear her name.

The Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre is partially funded by the NHS, but we rely on voluntary donations and fundraising events like this to fund the remainder of our £88,000 costs each year. We are so very grateful to those who are kind enough to contribute towards our work.

How your donations help

During the COVID-19 pandemic, our team at the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre are working hard to adapt our support to reach out to patients and loved ones during this difficult time. Your donation will help us to provide one-to-one guided telephone relaxation, support sessions and create online videos focusing on relaxation and breathing techniques.

Since the beginning of the lockdown our Complementary Therapy team have provided over 400 individual sessions to people, many of whom were at home on their own.

You can watch all the videos on reducing stress and relaxation techniques by our Complementary Therapy team here.

Patient story

One patient who recently used the centre for a guided telephone relaxation session during lockdown said,

I was surprised by the telephone support - it was wonderful - all you concentrate on is the person's voice and that is where the power is - you're conscious and aware of your whole body relaxing.  The back up from whole team at LJMC has been outstanding.  I felt desperate at the beginning of my cancer treatment - life can feel like you are hanging on by a thread. This all has so turned it around and the support I have received has been a total life saver. What its done for me - mentally is outstanding.
