We are delighted to announce that we have launched a brand new fundraising appeal in partnership with Rotary Club of Hitchin Tilehouse with the aiming of raising over £70,000 for two new pieces of equipment for the Neonatal and Maternity Unit at Lister Hospital.

Sonosite PX portable ultrasound

The first piece of equipment, a Sonosite PX portable ultrasound will help local women seen at the trust who have a history of recurrent miscarriages.

The machine will enable staff to scan women on every visit - a service which is not currently available on the NHS. This extra scan will help reduce anxiety for women who have experienced the distress of past miscarriages. There is good evidence that these additional scans improve outcomes and reduce miscarriage rates.

The ultrasound will help 200 women each year with a history of recurrent miscarriage

High fidelity simulator

The appeal is also aiming to fund a high fidelity simulator for the neonatal unit which provides intensive and special care for preterm and poorly newborn babies.

The simulator is a specialist manikin designed to provide realistic responses to medical interventions. This innovative piece of equipment will be used to train doctors, neonatal nurses and midwives giving them technical and crisis management skills. This will enable them to provide a high standard of care to babies who need additional support during their birth and neonatal period.

The simulator will help 700-800 babies each year
