The Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre (LJMC), located at the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre, is one of the first organisations of its kind to provide support, information and holistic care to people affected by cancer. The centre provides support for patients and families, helping them cope with all aspects of cancer from diagnosis, through treatment and beyond.

The centre works closely with clinical staff to ensure that conventional treatments and procedures are fully integrated with a holistic approach that deals with the patient as a whole person, and not just with the disease.

The centre is named after Lynda Jackson, a former patient at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre who died at the age of 31. Lynda's family and friends raised a substantial amount of money in her memory to launch the fundraising for the centre that was to come to bear her name.

The Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre is partially funded by the NHS, but we rely on voluntary donations and fundraising events to fund the remainder of our £132,000 costs each year. We are very grateful to those who are kind enough to help us continue to fund the centre.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the team worked hard to adapt services to reach out to patients and loved ones. They provided one-to-one guided telephone relaxation, support sessions and create online videos focusing on relaxation and breathing techniques.

You can watch all the videos on reducing stress and relaxation techniques by our Complementary Therapy team here.
