Our multi-award-winning Butterfly Volunteer Service relies on specially-trained volunteers to provide companionship for end-of-life patients. Without the Butterfly project, 15-20 patients were dying alone at the Lister each month and others were alone when waiting for relatives to arrive.

Last year our Butterflies sat with an incredible 650 patients, demonstrating the immeasurable impact this service has.

In order to keep the project running we must raise over £40,000 each year, to allow us to provide appropriate management and support for our 30 volunteers, including training, uniforms, lanyards, information packs and marketing.

Each year we:

  • Make over 2,000 visits
  • Provide over 1,000 hours of emotional support
  • Increase our volunteer base.

In June 2020 the group's outstanding compassion and dedication was recognised with the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service, the highest award given to voluntary organisations.
