Siblings, Dorne and Robert, share their story on why they raised funds for the Critical Care Unit and Lister Macmillan Cancer Centre

Dorne took part in the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge earlier this year raising a fantastic £1,000 to split between the Critical Care Unit and Lister Macmillan Cancer Centre.

Dorne was inspired to take part in the challenge to raise funds for six charities to say thank you for the care Robert received when he was diagnosed with bowel cancer last year and when he had a heart attack in January of this year. He was looked after by the teams at Lister Hospital so as a family they decided to fundraise and give back to the hospital teams who supported him throughout his treatment.

Robert said: “I am so proud of Dorne for smashing the demanding challenge in 13 hours and for raising over £5,000 for six special charities close to my heart. I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for each of them and I will forever be grateful to every person who has got me through one of the toughest years of my life. Despite experiencing these personal challenges I feel strong and more positive than ever and I hope my story can inspire others and show that you can get through the most difficult of times with help from friends, family and our invaluable NHS."
